Clive Barker’s Jericho Media Blowout! Box Art, Screenshots & Character Art, Oh My!

Categories: Wii Xbox 360 Playstation 3 | April 20th, 2007 | by | no comments

Clive Barker’s Jericho can only be described by one word… scary. Every trailer that has been released has given off that impression and these screenshots help to give that impression as well.
As you’ll see in the screens, the game is chock full of gorey, intimidating creatures who probably don’t want to do anything else but turn you inside out just for the hell of it. I can’t wait to get my hands on this particular title. Maybe I should wear a diaper while I play it, just in case.
Clive Barker’s Jericho is set to be released Fall 2007, so you have no excuse not to get mentally prepared for this title.

Harvest Moon Is For The Young

Categories: Wii Xbox 360 Playstation 3 | April 20th, 2007 | by | no comments

Always enjoy it when Eurogamer bust out an interview to break up the news and reviews, and there’s a neat interview with Harvest Moon creator Yasuhiro Wada up there right now, answering some vital questions.
If nothing else, I enjoy the simple statement from Wada about why he created the series: “I wanted to convey the goodness of rural life - not urban life, but rural life - and farming was the easiest instrument to realise that feeling in a game. That’s why I chose to make a farming game.”
He also muses on the game franchise’s success, and just why that might be: “I think it’s very gentle and friendly. These days there are other games such as Animal Crossing that bear similarities, but before there wasn’t such a game at all. Perhaps that’s why people identified so much with Harvest Moon, originally.”
Also, looks like Wada might be working [...]

Design the Bioshock Limited Edition Box

Categories: Wii Xbox 360 Playstation 3 | April 20th, 2007 | by | no comments

Have a copy of Adobe Illustrator? If you do, 2kgames has announced a contest where you get to design the Bioshock Limited Edition box! It all started with an online petition, where fans begged 2k games to produce a Bioshock Limited Edition for the release. 19,692 signatures later, Bioshock finally agreed. Now, in an odd twist, Bioshock has asked those same fans who demanded a limited edition to design the box art for the release.
The contest details are as follows:
1. They will be accepting submissions from April 18th, until the end of the day on Wednesday, May 2nd. All submissions must be sent to this email address.
2. The design must be 5-1/2” x 7-1/2” (or 135mm by 190mm). The design cannot contain any text. Also, designs should be black and white, vector in nature, and created in Adobe Illustrator.
3. After all the submissions are collected, the developers will [...]

New Silent Hill 5 Details

Categories: Wii Xbox 360 Playstation 3 | April 20th, 2007 | by | no comments

The Silent Hill series has been noted as the successor to the Resident Evil horror genre crown. They have made a name for themselves with four critically-praised releases, a blockbuster film, and successful portable sales. Silent Hill fans can be sure the series will be around for quite a while. The details about the next part in the series, Silent Hill 5, have been hard to come by as Konami has kept a tight ship on any leaks regarding plot details or gameplay elements. Fortunately, famed Silent Hill designer Akira Yamaoka has revealed a few details in a recent interview regarding the upcoming release.
GamePro: Despute is over the console which SH5 will appear on. Does Konami Digital Entertainment have any plans or ideas of the platform which Silent Hill 5 will be?
Akira: At this time we are still not sure. We are thinking of putting the next canon game [...]

C&C 3 Demo Now on Live

Categories: Wii Xbox 360 Playstation 3 | April 20th, 2007 | by | no comments

Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars is a game I have been wanted to check out for some time now on my PC. Well this morning Microsoft was nice enough to put the Xbox 360 demo up on Live. Because of the popularity of the demo it seems Microsoft is having problems with too many people downloading it. Because I am busy giving you the news I have not downloaded it yet. I will keep you updated.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD’s Enhanced Graphics

Categories: Wii Xbox 360 Playstation 3 | April 20th, 2007 | by | no comments

A few weeks ago, Capcom announced they are going to be bringing Super Street Fighter II Turbo to the XBLA and PSN with new artwork and a promise to bring the franchise into the HD era (1080p anyone?)
As you can see from the picture above from Racketboy, the attention to detail in the enhanced version of Super Street Fighter II Turbo is simply amazing. When the game is released later this year, no more will the word “sprite” be used for this series.
I personally embrace this much needed upgrade. I’m all for nostalgia, but there is nothing much left to do in the 2D fighting market. The only logical thing now to do is give 2D fighters the complete graphical upgrade they so rightly deserve, not a game with 80 characters who’s character models are obviously outdated. If Capcom pulls off this transition, I [...]

Should you even die once in a well-designed game?

Categories: Wii Xbox 360 Playstation 3 | April 20th, 2007 | by | no comments

How hard should a video game be? Should it tromp on your skull the whole way through until you break multiple controllers in aggravation? Or should it hold your hand throughout, offering a plethora of tutorials and stages easy enough for anyone to complete? Of course, the obvious answer is somewhere in between the two, but I think that it is even a little more complicated than that.
Take dying, for example. Losing a life in a video game is obviously something you want to avoid as often as possible. Heck, in Contra you can only do it three times before you have to start all over again (without the code, of course). So if you are a good player, why should it even happen once? In a perfectly designed game shouldn’t you be able to make it through an entire quest without ever seeing a “Game Over” screen?
Find out why [...]

Art Attack Friday: Dan Schoening

Categories: Wii Xbox 360 Playstation 3 | April 20th, 2007 | by | no comments

With pictures of Captain N, The Great American Hero and even Ghostbusters, Dan Schoening's artwork is like living the 80s all over again with Steve Gutinberg as your roommate. Zing!
All kidding aside, Dan does create some great video game artwork especially his "Pipe Dreams" Mario montage and his newest piece, The Legend of Zelda montage.
Dan is one of 7 talented artists that make up the Sketch Tavern Web site. You can see all his work here.

“E…A…Sports, It’s In The Game!” Tutorial

Categories: Wii Xbox 360 Playstation 3 | April 20th, 2007 | by | no comments

EA Sports has for many years been the pinnacle of sports games ever since the brand was created in 1993. If you played any EA Sports Genesis or Super Nintendo games, then you know how great of an experience it used to be.
One thing though that everyone who has played an EA Sports game will never forget is Andrew Anthony’s opening tagline of “E…A…Sports, it’s in the game!”. In fact, I’m sure you have attempted to mimic the tagline time and time again. But you know what, it probably will never sound like Andrew’s opening. And he knows that. That’s why Andrew Anthony decided to make this little tutorial on how to properly say “E…A…Sports, it’s in the game!” correctly so you don’t embarrass yourself and those around you.
